Abstract
In line with the trend of positive psychology, researches gave more attention towards the positive consequences or benefits of Well-being, compared to the early studies on well-being. In optimizing the benefits such as social relations, it becomes important to ensure various factors that can contribute, including forgiveness. One critique of positive psychology is that the assessment of forgiveness should be more contextual. In addition, researchers are also expected to see a more comprehensive process of forgiveness. Moreover, the results of research on the extent to which its contribution is still inconsistent. Although the average study results show a positive relationship between forgiveness and wellbeing as well as bringing positive benefits to many people, forgiveness is suspected to have negative implications for relationships and wellbeing. This article present the findings of a meta-analyses study on the corellation between forgiveness and well-being. This study was conducted to examine the consistency of primary research results between forgiveness and wellbeing. This study use 2 artifacts analyses i.e. sampling error and measurement. From the meta-analyses of 24 studies conducted in Eastern and Western countries , with a variety of samples from children, adolescents, adults and the elderly, it was found that there is a positive corelation between forgiveness and wellbeing. The implication of this finding are two folds: (1) for interventions : forgiveness - especially in interpersonal relations - is proven effective in improving one's wellbeing; (2) for further research academicians need to pursue in more indepth the preconditions needed for interpersonal forgiveness.
