In the current era, YouTube is considered an important medium that can be used in education, especially to improve students' English language skills and elements. The objectives of the analysis in this study were to find out students' perspectives on the use of English YouTube videos in and out of class, as well as to find out what English skills and elements were developed in students through the use of English YouTube. The method used in this study was a mixed method of quantitative (to determine the results of the questionnaire), and qualitative one for the interview. There were 126 students from SMKN 73, Jakarta. They responded to statements of the questionnaire, and answered questions in the interview to find out their perceptions, and what English language skills as well as elements which were developed in their English language learning by using YouTube inside and outside the classroom. It was found that students had positive perspectives towards the use of English YouTube videos inside and outside the classroom. They felt happy, fun, interested, understanding the materials, convenient, easy, and fast when they learned English with YouTube. The students did not feel confused, difficult, bored, nor stressful. They also felt the videos were helpful, appropriate, and great in the interviews. In addition, the students thought that their listening, vocabulary, speaking, spelling, viewing, writing, reading, grammar, pronunciation and presentation developed when learning English using YouTube inside and outside the classroom, although they considered that they needed direct guidance by the teacher, especially for grammar. |
