| The objectives of the study were to determine the student’s level of EFL speaking anxiety before and after the TTRPG “The Mafia” Based Learning, the students’ perception of the TTRPG-“The Mafia”-based learning, and how effective it is in reducing their EFL speaking anxiety. The participants of this study were 21 undergraduate students in Atma Jaya Catholic University Semanggi, Indonesia. The participants were enrolled in the Interacting in English class, section A. In the data collection process, students were asked to fill in a self-report assessment containing 22 items to see their level of EFL speaking anxiety. They were also asked to fill in a survey containing 20 items to see their perception in the TTRPG “The Mafia” Based Learning. A classroom observation was implemented to support the assessment and furthermore, 3 out of the 22 students were interviewed to reconfirm and strengthen the survey results. The findings were analyzed based on the comparison of their EFL speaking anxiety before the experiment, and the correlation between the difference and their perception in the TTRPG “The Mafia” Based Learning. The results showed that the students’ EFL speaking anxiety level was lowered because of their positive perception in the experiment. However, the results also showed that the students tend to code switch to their mother tongue in high emotional or intense situations in the game. Overall, the TTRPG “The Mafia” Based Learning is a great tool for practicing confidence in English speaking. |
