This study investigates how Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) is used for teaching English to young learners at the elementary school level. This study involved 31 fifth- grade students from SD Tarakanita Gading Serpong and a pre-service teacher (English Language Education student from batch 2022 during the teaching assistantship period) from Atma Jaya Catholic University. This current study used mixed methods, which incorporates both quantitative and qualitative approaches. To collect the data, a paper- based questionnaire consisting of 17 items was filled out by the students to find out their perceptions of TBLT activities to enhance integrated English language skills in the classroom. The questionnaire was distributed on-site before the session ended. In addition, an interview was conducted with the pre-service teacher to gain in-depth information regarding his task implementation. The findings from this study is expected to contribute to the field of education by providing insights on elementary school students’ perceptions of TBLT activities in the classroom. This study provides an overview related to the challenges the students faced in TBLT activities including the areas in need of improvement. |
