Isi artikelDesigned as two-cycle Class Research Action or Penelitian Tindakan Kelas, it involved 240 students of Class IV and V in the akademic year of 2010/2011. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and reflection: Questionnaire was gain used for collection data on students' motivation in learning model; observation and reflection were attemted how each cycle operated and studentns' perticipate in the learning model; test and portfolio were instrumen used for collecting data on students' ability of thinking ( achievement in terms of product and process) ; interview was done to grasp teachers' perception on the model. Using mixed method , qualitative analysis is used to interpret the findings in the observation, while quantitative analysis is used to read data from the test and the questionnaire. Reflection is conducted to interpret issues raised in the class in order to see if particular follow-up actions are implemented. The research results are as follows: 1) The applied approach problem base learning helped enhance the students' motivation in learning IPS. 2) Most students showed their participate in the problem base learning applied by the teacher in learning IPS; and 3) The approach in learning IPS helped enhance the students' ability of thinking ( achievement in product and process alike), as proven by the students' accomplished learning both individually and in group.
