This article presents research results about an alternative conception 'internal force' on moving objects among high school students and physics teachers. This alternative conception includes two fundamental assertions. First, the alternative conception asserts that the act of setting an object in motion imparts to the object an 'internal force' that serves to maintain the motion. Second, the alternative conception assumes that a moving object's 'internal force' gradually dissipates, either spontaneously or as result of external influences. The alternative conceptions developed by different individuals can be described as different forms of the same basic alternative conception. Cause the alternative conception 'internal force' was developed especially from experience with real-world, the alternative conception is maybe not easily changed. The physics teachers who everday teach the principles of Newtonian Mechanics did not automatically induce to give up the alternative conception 'internal force' which strikingly inconsistent with the principles of Newtonian Mechanics.
