Introduction: Anencephaly is a fatal congenital malformation of the centralnervous system. Case: We report a case of a 12-week-old fetus with anencephaly from a 25-year-old woman. She throws up every time she consumed vegetables duringher pregnancy. With the prediction on folic acid deficiency, we discuss theeffect of folic acid metabolism and genes mutations as risk factors for anen-cephaly. Conclusions: The environment factors play an important role in the patho-physiology of anencephaly, beside chromosomes and genetics factors. Moreresearch is needed to better understand the etiologies and pathogeneses of anencephaly.
