As mentioned previously, when an axially loaded, plate member is subjected to central axial tension or compression, the normal stress is uniformly distributed in the cross-section. This uniform stress distribution will occur on all cross-sections except those in the vicinity of the points of application of the loads. Should abrupt changes in geometry exist in a plate, however, large irregularities in the stress distribution will develop. As preliminary stage of research, it will be design an experimental tool for determined stress concentration factor for a notch flat bar loaded tension, which can be observed stress concentration phenomena studied experimentally and its comparison with theoretical analysis and empirical Paterson's graphic. Produced experimental tool with geometrical size of 900 cm x 300 cm x 1150 cm, observing experimental result of stress concentration factor for two types of notched radius, found difference only of 7.3 % and 4.0 %, from theoretical analysis. This result can be used as practical usage.
