The sub-district of Kuin is a historical area which is the original center of the city of Banjarmasin. The condition of settlement an its environment is now deteriorating. While the development of the settlement does not emphasize its unique identity as historical area. Therefore, this area requeres revitalization to acommodate change and to improve the quality of settlement and environment and to bring out the peciliarities in physical terms by developing the local potential. The research method which is used in this study is historical investigation method and descriptive method. The obtained data is analyzed using qualitative and quantitative method. While to bring out the peculiarities of settlement, the analysis of non parametric statistics is used. The accentuation of physical peculiarities of the area can be made by preserving and developing the uniqueness of the envifonment which is surrounde by rivers as aesthetical alement of the area, arrangingthe patterns of river bank settlements, and preserving traditional-styles houses. The identity of the settlement area as historical place can be achieved in this manner.
