Isi artikelA three-dimensional (3D) water circulation model, in which its governing equation being transformed to s-coordinate in the vertical direction, has been developed in this study. To reduce a large amount of computational work in dealing with the 3D-circulation model, a method called "mode-splitting technique" has been used. The developed model was then applied to the Osaka Bay in Japan by simulating tidal current. The validation model was done by comparing the calculated and observed values, namely: amplitude and phase lag pf tidal current constituents (O1, K1, M2, and S2), residual currents, and water elevation. The agreement between them is generally good although there are some differences, especially in phase lag. In addition, the computed results also demonstrate the existence of clockwise circulation near the Akashi Strait (at the northern part of the Osaka Bay), as simulated by Nakatsuji and Fujiwara (6) and observed as a large eddy circulation from the artificial satelite MOS-1.
