The project-based learning (PjBL) is a good method in the teaching and learning process. In the EFL classroom, PjBL is challenging for the students. This study aims to find EFL students’ perceptions about Project-Based Learning in the seventh grade of SMP Pangudi Luhur Jakarta. The participants were 98 students from SMP Pangudi Luhur who have been implementing PjBL in learning. This study used a qualitative and quantitative method design from questionnaire responses. There were 16 statements, 5 open-ended questions which concerned with three kinds of students’ feelings, as well as their comments and suggestions related to the students’ perceptions of PjBL in EFL. The results of the study showed the students’ perceptions towards their English development, the implementation, and the benefit of PjBL. It found that PjBL improved their EFL listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar, as well as vocabulary. In the implementation, the students said they also got the advantages from the use of language features in writing descriptive text. They did well on the individual project; and PjBL challenged students to improve their English. While the benefits the students in PjBL were that they could learn how to manage projects more precisely; PjBL made them excited to learn English; and they felt more involved in learning English by using the PjBL method. The students also felt happy, interested, and enthusiastic while doing the project. There were also comments and suggestions they provided about PjBL for EFL learning. |
