| MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) have been radically changing the direction of online education in the last few years. Although sharing many common features, there has been an emergence of two distinct varieties of MOOC: cMOOCs and xMOOCs. The two are distinguished based on their different pedagogies. This paper outlines the history of MOOCs and attempts to examine the main feature differences between cMOOC and xMOOC learning models. The authors, both continuing education practitioners, also present their experiences and reflections on being learners in a cMOOC and xMOOC delivered by Coursera, a commercial MOOC provider. |
