We consider areas of consensus, including the value of an evolutionary perspective and the utility of exploring variations in physical activity play. We also consider areas of debate, including the nonplay / play distinction, functions of R & T, and the opportunities of juveniles for exercise training. We call for more directed research in this neglected area of children's behavior and development.
