Isi artikel
In response to the challenge of changing social values and of decreasing ecclesiastical influence, the common approach of the conservative churches is to clarify and re-emphasize traditional norms and to call society back to "the old paths." Any changes observable are strategic, not positional. Liberal theology and practice, however, are being re-examined and re-interpreted in light of new knowledge and need; and its clergymen often take the lead in identifying and clarifying moral and family values. Certaint rends indicate that the liberal-conservativrei ft in religion will widen, that the conservative churches will suffer decreasing social influence; but that as liberal churchmen and social scientists pool their skills and resources, their religious institutions maybe an increasingly effective agent of social change.
