This study investigates factors which increase risk of dementia in elderly with low level education. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study involving 271 elderly subjects with less than 6 years formal education. Dementia is diagnosed if an MMSE score of less than 24 and at least 1 limitation in Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) are present. Examination of olfactory nerve function was performed using 10 odors commonly found in Indonesia, olfactory deficits if score <6 from 10 odor identification. This study used secondary data of Atma Jaya Cognitive and Ageing Research from the cohort of year 2011-2015 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Result: There were 87 (32.1%) of respondents with dementia. Multivariate analysis showed age, and olfactory function as risk factors of dementia in elderly with low level of education (p<0.05), while gender, HDL, LDL, blood glucose, and APOE showed no relation with dementia.
