The purpose of this study was to see the development of students’ listening comprehension skills by utilizing YouTube as an Audio-Visual material as well as their perception towards it. The participants are active students of English Language Education at the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. They are currently in their second semester and enrolling in the “Speaking & Listening in Academic Context” class. The research data were taken from participants’ scores of Pre-Test and Post-Test. After the Pre-Test, the participants were divided into two groups; Experimental and Control group. The Experimental group received a treatment while the Control group didn’t. Also, the research data were taken from participants’ interview answers as for the Experimental group. In addition to interpreting comparisons between participants’ Pre-Test and Post-Test, the researcher analyzed the improvement of each participant by looking at the score differences. Alongside that, the Experimental group’s interview answers were analyzed based on several categories which YouTube benefits. Then, the researcher aligned their answers with the previous studies. Lastly, the researcher could consider whether YouTube is applicable. It can be concluded that most of the Experimental group participants experienced score improvements in their listening comprehension skills compared to the Control group. Not only did they experience that, they mostly gave positive perceptions. For further research, various video-sharing sites can be applied and the treatment can be done normally so that every process is monitored thoroughly. Apart from that, other skills besides listening can be implemented by using the same technique for students. |
