Isi artikel
The purpose of this paper is to investigate interest rate seasonality in Japan. We find that, contrary to the previous thought, prominent seasonal movements of interest rates could not be observed in Japan even before World War I. In particular, we find that soon after its founding, the Bank of Japan accomplished the deseasonalization of interest rates by introducing seasonal movements into the supplies of currency. This result is surpricing because it implies that Japan accomplished the deseasonalization of interest rates much earlier than the United States and European countries did.
