Laboratory management is mainly developed based on ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and it should be accredited by the local government body (e.g. HKAS). However, due to the increasing needs of customers and internal management, many other management systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 27001 may need to be implemented in laboratories in order to enhance customer perception and laboratory security of staff, information, environment, customer properties, the laboratory's reputation, etc. To facilitate the implementation of those management systems in the laboratory, an integrated approach is found to be necessary to adopt for increasing their effectiveness and efficiency. An integrated Laboratory Management System (iLMS) is proposed and being implemented in the Technology Support Centre (TSC) of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP). Currently, some of TSC's laboratories have certified with ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001, while some laboratories achieved ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 27001. TSC is planning to implement ISO 14001 in the near future. This paper aims to present the rationale of the design of the iLMS system and report the progress of the implementation of the system.
