Isi artikel
Rats were given footshocks in one of two contexts; they later received tone presentations in either the same context in which they had been shocked or in the other context. Second-order conditioning was evidenced by the greater fear of the tone, as measured by lick suppression in a third context, by the rats that had received the tone in the same context in which they had been shocked. However, this conditioning was abolished by nonreinforced exposure to the context prior to testing. These results indicate that an association between a discrete stimulus and a contextual stimulus can be acquired through second-order conditioning and that this association includes stimulus features of the context.
