The purpose of this study is to describe the following issues: the Islamic boarding school's response to the IT development, the ability of the human resources in understanding IT, the utilization of IT, the impact of utilizing IT upon the improvement of the educational system of the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) for the future. This study uses qualitative approach.This study was conducted at eight Islamic boarding schools. The findings of this study are as follows: a) Response of the Islamic boarding school to IT is divided into two, they are adaptive and unadaptive; b) there are four steps in using IT in teaching and learning process. They are emerging, applying, integrating, and transforming. Most of the schools are still in the step of emerging and applying; c) the ability of the human resources in understanding IT is still in operating scale, not in programming one, and the ability to understand the uses of the software is still low; d) The utilization of IT is focused on preaching, education, and social affairs; e) The uses of IT to the improvement of the educational system of the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) is still less. This surely makes no significant impact to the educational system; and f) The IT tools that are needed are the complete hardware, educational software, and the quality brain ware.
