The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of incorporating 4/3/2 technique towards learners’ speaking fluency after watching English subtitled videos in light of four variables: speech rate, articulation rate, phonation-time ratio, and mean length of runs. The participants of this study include 2 Papuan learners who have been studying in the English Language Education program for one semester. The study asked the participants to watch 10 videos of English subtitled TV-series for 10 days and then record themselves retelling the story in 4/3/2 minutes consecutively each day. A pre- and post-test were also conducted to see whether the participants improved their fluency after the treatment. It may be concluded from the study that the participants improved their speaking fluency after the treatment. By the end of the treatment, they were able to produce more words, talk longer, and produce fewer pauses. |
