This research aims to make a comparative analysis of the types of idioms used in both the English version and the Indonesian translation of Lady Midnight according to the structure and the compositionality criteria. The author also identifies what translation strategies are used in translating the English idioms. For the research data, the author scans the novel to collect the English idioms and matches the source text with the Indonesian version to locate the translations. The author then identifies the translation strategies by comparing the data. The author conducts both quantitative and qualitative analysis to formulate the findings. The author finds that almost half of English idioms are verbal idioms, and most of the English idioms have traceable meaning from their constituent words. However, almost all of the English idioms are translated as non-idiom Indonesian translations. The author also finds that paraphrasing and literal translation are the most frequently used strategies. The findings reveal that there is an interesting pattern of the translations: the compositional idioms are more likely to be translated as compositional idioms, while non-compositional idioms tend to be translated as non-idioms. Finally, the author encourages other researchers to also assess translation accuracy or correlation between idiom types and translation accuracy in the translation of idioms and suggests that translators should exercise great care in translating idioms to avoid inaccuracies or unacceptability of their translations.
