Isi artikelThis study aims to measure the technical efficiency of soybean production in three regions in East Java, and to assess the impact of integrated pest management training and other factors on variation of efficiency. To estimate the technical efficiency and inefficiency effect, this study uses stochastic frontier production functions, reflecting the best practice of production given certain levels of input uses and existing technology. The results indicate that variation in soybean production is due to variation in technical efficiency among farm operators. Averagely, farms are technically inefficient. Thus, there is still a considerable room for improvement in productivity of soybean farms given existing agricultural technology for soybean production. Institutional factors affect the level of technical efficiency, and integrated pest management training is capable of raising productivity of soybean through an improvement in efficiency.
