Isi artikelThe patient had been well until 1 week before admission, when she noted blurred vision in her right eye. The next day, she met with her primary care physician, who referred her to an ophthalmologist at another facility. She was told she had “retinal inflammation” and was referred to a retina specialist, whom she saw the next day, 5 days before admission. She reported severe throbbing pain behind the right eye and redness of the eye; examination revealed conjunctival injection and posterior uveitis. Valacyclovir, leucovorin, prednisone, sulfadiazine, and pyrimethamine were prescribed for oral administration, and prednisolone and homatropine ophthalmic solution were prescribed for topical administration; she began all but pyrimethamine (not available at the pharmacy) that day. Laboratory studies were obtained the next day; a complete blood count was normal, and a rapid plasma reagin test was nonreactive. Other test results were pending.
