Isi artikel
Personal interviews were carried out in the valley of the Tornio River, the northern boundary between Sweden and Finland, in 1966. The study among married persons is part of a larger study about the influence of the national boundary on the life style of a formerly unified social and economic area. In the analysis of the respondents, sex and social position were controlled. Families at the center had adopted more new ideologies and practices than families at the periphery. Differences between the countries were small at the periphery, large at the center, where the Swedish families were more modern. Especially the Swedish wives at the center had adopted new family patterns. This may be explained by the recent rapid economical and social development of the Swedish society.
