In view of the changing socio-economic and demographic scenario of India, increasing levels of educations and income along with a simultaneous decline in fertility, it is likely that a higher proportion of older persons in India will be living alone in the future. Therfore, policies and programmes related to older persons may have to be designed so that they adequately address the needs of older persons living alone
