This study aims to introduce drama parody as a technique for improving student’s ability in speaking in English Literature Class. The use of drama is as one consideration because this is for English literature students. It was theorized that play is the source of development and creates the zone of proximal development. In language teaching, the process of language development can be seen from how the students improve their skill step by step. Like play, drama inherently possesses these characteristics. Although drama purists may recoil at the idea of promoting drama solely for its potential to foster language development, this may be a particularly effective way to ensure that today’s students have the opportunity to experience the joy of dramatizing a story or enacting a scenario. Parody is one of the many forms of intertextual allusion out of which texts are produced. Parody involves the imitation and transformation of another’s words. Drama parody is used as a tool in the speaking class to stimulate students’ imagination and to produce some words. In this class, I have chosen one Russian drama, “The Bear” (Anton Chekov) which I feel as a perfect example of literature that is easy to read and interesting for many interesting discussions in English literature class. The students will perform the drama parody of “the Bear” in the class consisting four characters in the drama. The result shows that the students actively produce new words and phrases and freely create different kind of drama. Finally with this kind of drama, students will be encouraged to offer their views on literary works and how they can improve their speaking ability by acting, moving and producing words.
