Isi artikelA study was undertaken to determine the nursery school's role in the transmission of sex role expectations. Analysis was made both of the school's policy on sex roles and the children's perceptions of them. It was found that though the particular school observed was very committed to minimizing this type of socialization, a considerable amount nonetheless took place. In terms of the children themselves, it was noted that most of them had no fixed notions of appropriate behavior for males and females; the fact of sex categories rather was occasionally used by them as an attempted ideology of control. A minority of the children however did show interesting patterns of traditional sex-typed behavior. The paper concludes by pointing out the necessity of observing a wider range of pre-schools to fully understand the specific role played by such institutions in sex role socialization
