Isi artikel
This article examines the stereotypes of women found in six recent marriage and family texts. All were written by male sociologists; all had an original publication date of 1960 or later. Unproved or value-laden statements about the female were placed in four broad categories: sexual attitudes and behavior; sex roles and socialization; mate selection. marriage, and divorce; and the economics of being female. The paper demonstrates that so-called "value-free" social science is full of myths and folklore about the female, which are presented as factual, and are used to justify her subordinate status.
