This study is an attempt to show, by re-analyzing data from a survey of married women, some aspects of the social organization of contemporary Czechoslovak families. Its further aim is to point out the variety of family types which can be detected in the Czechoslovak society. It should thus like to argue against assumptions that family patterns in socialist countries are uniform. The social structure of these societies and of their elements is much more complex than it is often supposed in the West.
