The study is based on probability samples of 2,248 and 2,160 currently married women respectively in Ife and Oyo, two major Yoruba towns. 11 discusses the relationship between marital stability and the factors age at first marriage, type of marriage contract, number of co-wives, educational, and fertility status of the women. The results show that marital stability is influenced to a significant degree by all these factors except fertility status. By far the most important of these factors, however, is the number of co-wives.
