Isi artikelForty-two married couples took tests designed to measure their marital happiness and integrative complexity. The hypothesis that couples bilaterally high in integrative complexity would be happier than couples bilaterally low in integrative complexity was statistically supported. The findings are interpreted as supporting an "adaptivity" notion of marital happiness and are used to illustrate the need for examining personality structure (as well as content) in studying the marital relationship.
