Isi artikelA review of ten studies related to the Jamaican family indicates that all of the samples tended to come primarily from rural-lower-class Jamaicans, The studies were completed during the 1951- 1959 period and were conducted mostly by non-West Indian investigators. The findings of the studies are examined, and some critical analysis is made, which includes some historical background of Jamaican society. References are made to present-day, middle-class Jamaican families, and the many gaps in research in this area are noted. A comprehensive analysis of the lower-class family by Raymond Smith is included in this paper.
