Responses of family life professionals and students to an inventory of family success indices were compared. Differences in responses between professionals and students were statistically significant on 55 of the 71 indices. Also in indicating traits which they perceive their present families as possessing, both students who rated their families "successful" as well as those who rated their families "unsuccessful" differed significantly from the professionals in responses; however, students who rated their families "successful" were more similar to the professionals in responses than w"ere those who rated their families "unsuccessful".
