It is suggested that the notion that family disorganization should be viewed in evaluative terms is theoretically sterile. Instead the question is raised as to the conditions of order.disorder within the conjugal family. Certain relevant variables are indicated which, when combined in different ways, suggest five different patterns of husband-wife interaction. These patterns are then compared in terms of the selected variables as to their relative differential tendencies toward disorganization.
