This paper reviews the definition, the original term for rtail until the basic principles of the retailing process. In addition, it reveals the basic theories of the retailing. The basic principles of the retailing process are the economic production, supply, demand and utility theory, the comsumption theory, the exchange principle, and the marketing concept. The development of the institutional retail classification will be presented. Finaly, this paper will discuss the relationship between retailing and the marketing concept.
