A quasi-experimental study was done to compare the changes of subjects' total cholesterol level due to the different length of the duration of the Therapeutic-Life-Changes (TLC) education. The education was held with direct verbal teaching. The variable was 3 months (as Phase One) continued up to 9 months (as Phase Two). The subjects were 40±5 years and were not under the medication of chronic disease. In Phase One, the 20 and 18 subjects signed the informed-consent and participated in treatment and control groups; In Phase Two some subjects dropped out, the subjects reduced to 18 and 14 for treatment and control group respectively. The study results showed that the basal conditions of the age, sex, body mass index, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, and total cholesterol level were not significantly different between groups. There were more subjects in the treatment group persisted in the study. The cholesterol levels were 207.8, 200.5, and 203.7 mg/dl in the treatment group vs 200.5, 206.1, and 199.7 mg/dl in the control group for the early, Phase One and Phase Two observation respectively (p>0.05). The cholesterol level Phase One decreased 4.5 mg/dl significantly different compared to control (p=0.03), but it decreased 1.2 mg/dl in Phase Two compared to control (p=0.56). Conclusion: the prolonged duration of the TLC education did not give the better cholesterol level among the subjects.
