Isi artikel
Korean builder Ssangyong has put up landmark projects and solved engineering challenges throughout Asia. Singapore's Marina Bay Sands Hotel may be Kim Suk-joon's crowning achievement. Ssangyong may not have many Korean workers abroad, but it certainly has lots of projects. Kim's personal touch and hands-on management has led the company on a steady expansion that has made it one of Korea's most internationally minded construction outfits. Some 45% of its expected $1.52 billion in revenue this year comes from overseas. It's built Grand Hyatts in Jakarta, Singapore and Dubai, and refurbished Singapore's Raffles Hotel. It's put up signature projects such as Jakarta Stock Exchange, Singapore's SunTec City commercial complex and the Emirates Tower Hotel in Dubai. Last month it won a $130 million contract to construct a W Hotel in Singapore. But its portfolio also boasts the bread and butter of any civil engineering firm-highways, tunnels, bridges, railways, dams, not to mention industrial plants and oil refineries.
