Isi artikel
For decades Tai Ping was almost an afterthought in the Kadoores' Hong Kong empire. Now, under an executive poached in the U.S., the company is expanding far beyond Asia. Tai Ping carpet's high-priced handmade carpets grace the floors of Buckingham Palace in London, the Goldman Sachs headquarters in New York and the Nobu Restaurant chain owned by celebrity chef Nobu Matsushisa. But it's customers like the middle-aged Western woman who walked into the company's Hong Kong showroom early this spring that keeps Tai Ping prospering in the face of the global economic crisis. Speaking fluent Cantonese, she splashed out more than $5,000 for a small piece of carpet for her beloved dog.
