Abstract
Background: Hypertension has become a major problem in public health that hit Indonesia as well as in some countries in the world. Hypertension causes death of about 9.4 million individuals annually. Depression often occurs in people with hypertension, so it is important to know the relationship between these problems are often clinically disconnected. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of depression in patients with hypertension and factors that play a role in the incidence of depression in patients with hypertension in Penjaringan Sub-District Public Health Centre Patients
Methods: This study used a cross-sectional method. Data collection included blood pressure measurements as well as interviews using the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale to assess symptoms of depression. Data analysis conducted in this research is univariate and bivariate analysis computerized.
Results: Prevalence of depression is about 62.8% of the total number of respondents. Factors affecting depression in hypertensive patients were age (p = 0.015), gender (p = 0.005), and education (p = 0.009). Factors that did not affect depression in hypertensive patients in this study were (p = 0.241), income (p = 0.812), marital status (p = 1,000), and comorbidities (p = 0.189)
Conclusion: Prevalence of depression in hypertension patient is 62,8%. Sex, age, and education are the factors that affect depression in people with hypertension
