Background: Anemia is a serious health problem. Anemia in pregnancy becomes a risk factor for delivering low birth weight babies (LBW). According to Riset Kesehatan Dasar, the prevalence of LBW babies in Indonesia is 10.2%. LBW babies are at risk of infection, disorder of respiratory system, central nervous system, hematology, digestion, kidney, and thermoregulation. Sixty to eighty percent babies die because of LBW every year. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study with a retrospective approach. The research was conducted at Community Health Center of Penjaringan Subdistrict, Jakarta. This study used medical record data. Subjects were pregnant women aged 18-35 years who had anemia in the third trimester and gave birth in Community Health Center of Penjaringan Sub-district throughout 2016. Results: One hundred and nineteen patients met inclusion and exclusion criteria. Based on medical record study, majority of subjects were 24-29 years old. Most of subjects were graduated from junior high school, housewife, multigravid, primiparity, and without history of abortion. Based on the classification, 67.2% patients had mild anemia, 31.9% had moderate anemia, and 0.8% had severe anemia. Subjects who gave birth to LBW were 21%. Conclusion: The population of pregnant women who had anemia in the third trimester was 119 patients. The population of LBW born to subjects were 21%. A total of 16 babies were born to mothers with mild anemia, 8 babies born to mothers with moderate anemia, and 1 baby born to mother with severe anemia. |
