Isi artikel
In their paper "Reforming Medical Education: a synthesis of five critiques of medical practice" in this issue of Social Science & Medicince, Sales and Schlaff (2010) claim that US physicians are not adequately prepared to function effectively in a modern health care system. They argue that medical students need to be taught in the social as well as biomedical sciences, and that medical admissions should give greater weight to achievements in social science subjects. These changes are necessary if modifications in health insurance arrangements are going to be translated into a substantial reform of health care in the United States. The authors argue that inclusion of social sciences will help meet this bigger goal by reorienting doctors from an individualistic to a more team oriented approach to health care.
