Abstract
Background: The number of people suffering from obesity in the world has doubled since 2014, and among those 600 million people, student are the majority of it. In Indonesia, the highest prevalence of obesity is found in Jakarta which is 4.2%. Energy intake, physical activity, and blood type are some of many factors contributing to obesity.While energy intake and physical activity are some of certain risk factor of obesity, blood type in the other hand is still debatable. Therefore, this study is to determined the relation between blood type and obesity.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to 69 respondents from Methodist Senior High School in North Jakarta. They are given Food Record 3x24 hour and ModBaecke Questionnaire (MBQ) to assess their energy intake and physical activity level. Finger-prick method is used to determine the blood type of each respondent.
Result: There is no relation between blood type and obesity (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: There is no relation between blood type and obesity. Further studies needs to be conducted to analyze the specific factor that contributes to obesity such as intestinal alkaline phosphatase and ghost erythrocytes in each individuals.
