The article discusses vocabulary growth ease (VGE) happening to a child aged 1;9, and relates it to other aspects of his language development. The study is a re-analysis of the findings of a naturalistic participatory-observation into the child’s linguistic production during the process of acquiring Bahasa Indonesia as a first language. In the original study, the data, collected for one year, from age 1;6 to age 2;6, were spontaneous utterances recorded in classification cards together with the situational contexts. For the present study, a number of findings were re-analyzed, placing VGE at the center of analysis. It could be concluded that when VGE happens considerable progress could be witnessed in other aspects: lexical, phonological, morphological, syntactic, and semantic. The true language acquisition process might actually start when a child demonstrates VGE, since it is at this time that he starts internalizing and re-creating the lexico-grammar of the target language.
