Isi artikelThe paper discusses various abbreviations and acronyms found on headstones during the period of VOC (Vereenigde Oost Indische Compagnie) or The Netherland’s East Indies Trading Company at the useum Taman Prasasti, Museum Wayang, Gereja Sion and Onrust Island in the capital city of Jakarta. Verbal codes in form of inscription on the headstones were written during the colonial times in Indonesia, which was in the 1700s and 1800s, and the language used was Dutch. The abbreviations and acronyms have been difficult to understand to date. There are not many people who speak modern Dutch can interpret the abbreviations and acronyms, let alone understand the codes. To understand the whole content of the codes, one must understand their representations and meanings of the abbreviations and acronyms. Data from various abbreviations and acronyms found in this study were classified by their types and analyzed meticulously based Dutch morphological features
