Isi artikel
The analyses I shall present in this paper are based on categories developed by Genette in his book Narrative Discourse (1). The data are 200 oral stories, made up and tape-recorded by 5 pre-school children, who were selected for the study on the basis of their rich early experience of hearing stories read aloud. The aim of the study was to discover the extent of the influence of written narrative discourse on the children's spontaneously invented oral stories. The Genette analysis is one of several I carried out, and it is probably the most complex. Here space limitations constrain me to summarize what I found, giving examples from the data wherever appropriate.
