Abstract
BACKGROUND : In pregnancy, amnionic fluid and membranes have an important role. If the membrane breaks and the fluid is gone, it can cause complications to the fetus. This study was conducted to prove the association of premature rupture of
membranes with the incidence of neonatal asphyxia, duration of neonatal care and prevalence of NICU admission.
METHOD : This research was conducted using observational analytic method, with cross sectional approach. The study sample was pregnant women who came to Atma Jaya Hospital and fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were analyzed by
Fisher's Exact correlation test with significance level p <0,05.
RESULT : Some respondents did not experience premature rupture of membranes (83.7%), the rest experienced premature rupture of membranes (16.3%). Of the total 80 respondents, most neonates were not asphyxia (73.7%) and the rest had asphyxia (26.3%). Duration of care majority of respondents <3.4 days (71.3%) and the rest>= 3.4 days (28.7%). Percentage of neonates who did not enter the NICU (81.3%,) more than those who entered the NICU (18.8%).
CONCLUSION : Statistically, there was a significant correlation between premature rupture of membranes with neonatal asphyxia and NICU neonates admission. It was also found that there was no significant association between premature rupture of membranes and length of neonatal care.
