Isi artikelIn her article in this issue "From Pleasure to Pain: The Role of the MPQ in the Language of Phantom Limb Pain", Crawford provides a useful history of phantom limb pain diagnosis, the McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ) and the role the MPQ has played in challenging the biomedical discourses which once dominated the treatment of pain (Crawford, 2009). In doing so she identifies a new discourse on pain, on that ackowledges problems associated with objectifying and diagnosing pain, and yet sees pain as as intersubjective experience to be shared with others. For Crawford, our ability to describe pain in the advent of the MPQ has increased pain's "sharability" (Crawford, 2009), and enabled us to place pain in its social and historical context.
