Isi artikelThe purpose of this study is to examine the information sharing activity among some lecturers at the Faculty of FIB UI in order to develope the sciene. Sharing information which is defined as collaboration of two individuals or more to exchange information is one of important activities in widening knowledge in order to develop our field study. This activity is apart of user studies. The study includes motivation of information sharing, reason of choosing certain colleague to share information, media he/she uses, kind of information to be shared, and the barriers. The study is conducted in 2007, used quantitative approach and questinnaires. The scope of the population are 258 lecturers of FIB UI. Based on stratified proportional sampling, the respondents consists of 35 disseminated in 6 departments, namely, department of lingustic, litteratures, philosophy, historiology, archeology, and library and information science. The finding shows that the information sharing has not been as their habit yet. This activity is just conducted at the level of its programs study. At this level, intencity of meting is higher than department level. Most lecturers share information when they have materials which have to be discused. The motivation of the lecturers are to improve their own knowledge. They prefer colleagues who have these criterias: at the same program and has competencies in the same fields. In doing this, they prefer to communicate face to face. The obstacle they find in performing the information sharing is colleague who has a little enthusiasm. The suggestions are to make activity of information sharing as routine; the faculty management and lecturers themself grow values of togetherness and trust in the name of science development; the faculty should motivate and appreciate more appropriately lecturers to sharing their knowledge, in order to motivate the other.
