The aims of this research were to determine the subjects about which parents needed information and the sources that provided the information they needed. Parents in north London were contacted through their clinic, library or nursery. Initially, group interviews were held to explore the subjects on which parents needed information. These data were then used to frame the questions for individual interviews, which were held with 35 parents. In the main, the parents needed information on health, care and development. Oral sources of information were popular, and health visitors were the professionals most frequently mentioned.
